How social-ecological systems cope with crises

In this volume, T. Luthe and R. Wyss publish a paper on conceptualizing resilience of social-ecological systems. Such systems undergo constant phases of exploitation or growth, conservation, release (when prone to disturbances and crises), and reorganization. These phases are displayed on a time line and direction of development to stress the human capacity for deliberate transformations for increasing resilience by dampening the effects of crises, illustrated by adaptive waves.
